Charles Ellis Montessori Academy will present the 4th annual Gallery on 49th Street exhibition this month at the school, which is located at 220 E. 49th St. The public is invited a premiere on Thursday, Feb. 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Once again, the middle school students of Charles Ellis Montessori Academy will bring together a diverse selection of artwork from students, faculty, staff and more than 20 community artists to exhibit in their Galley on 49th Street. The seventh and eighth grade students are responsible for recruiting artists of all ages, receiving and hanging the artwork, and planning and entertaining at the opening reception. At the premiere, students will act as docents, describing artists’ processes and techniques to visitors. “The experience of being the artful human is what learning should be about. Our students learn how to be artists, public speakers, writers and observers of a greater intellectual and artistic world,” says Kris Colvin, a language arts teacher at the school. Additionally, students exhibiting artwork will have the opportunity to see their work professionally presented, hanging next to well-known artists such as Gregory Eltringham, John McKinnon and Todd Shroeder. “At Ellis, art is not a separated part of the curriculum but an integral component. The Montessori philosophy uses all of the students’ senses to promote an appreciation for art and the beauty that is around them,” says Principal Charles Wooten. Read 0 Comments... >> |
